How to change a door lock and use the same old key?

It may be a dumb question but here goes...

My home has a total of 4 keyed entry locks on different doors. They are all operated by the same key. One of the locks stopped working and I need to replace it. I would like to use the same old key on the new lock. How do I do that? I can buy a 2-combo pack with one key for all but I don't want to replace all the locks. There has to be a smarter way. Please help out a new home owner here.

Whether or not it is easily doable depends on the the manufacturer and type of lock. Many locks will allow you to remove the cylinder from the old lock and use it in the new one. Many use generic cylinders, so you won't necessarily have to find the exact same brand. Some you can do yourself, some you will need help with.

If you will repost your question with the name brand of the locks, and whether it is a knob or lever handle, I can give you more specific advice.

Just have the hardware store that you buy the lock at re-key it to your key. It costs $5 per lock at the hardware store but you have to provide a key to re-key to. All entry door locks with the same keyway can be re-keyed to your key and some padlocks too.

You need to buy the same brand of lock and ask them to re-key the lock to the existing key you have, they can do that at the hardware store.
you'll have to have a locksmith pin the new lock with your key. It is not hard to do but they will have the pins, springs, and caps required to do so.
You will need to get a new lock of the same manufacturer as the others, and then have it re-keyed to match. Large building supply stores often have re-keying service available, for a modest cost. Just take the key with you to the store. (Duuh!)
You can buy kits to rekey the lock at Home Depot or Lowes. You would have to read the package to find out more.
Take the new lock and old key to a hardware store or locksmith. They can re-key the lock to fit the old key.
