How to change the lock options on my laptop?

usually, when i shut my laptop and reopen it, it will resume to whatever i was doing last, or my desktop. lately though, it's been locking when i reopen it, asking for my password everytime. how can i change that?
How to change the lock options on my laptop?
Try this:

With Windows XP:

1. Right-click on the Desktop and select Properties.

2. Click the Screen Saver tab.

3. Select a screen saver and set the timeout to whatever seems comfortable to you.

4. Select the “On resume, display the Welcome screen checkbox”.

5. Click Apply.

And now we'll take care of Standby mode:

1. Click the Power Options button.

2. Click the Advanced tab.

3. Uncheck the Prompt for password when computer resumes from Standby checkbox.

4. Click OK.

With Windows Vista (W7, possibly):

1. Right-click on the Desktop and select Personalize.

2. Click Screen Saver.

3. Click the “Change Power Settings” link.

4. Check the “Change when the computer sleeps” link.

5. Click the “Change advanced power settings” link.

6. Expand the “Additional settings” entry by clicking the + box.

7. Expand the “Require a password on wakeup” entry by clicking the + box.

8. Set the Setting to No. If this setting is grayed out, first click the “Change settings that are currently unavailable” link and do what it says.

9. Click OK.

Hope that helps.
