How to change a lock cylinder on a 1976 dodge ram charger?

you need to remove the door panel then reach in and remove the clip holding it in place and unhook the rod that is connected to it,be careful though the rod is held on by a small plastic clip and they will sometimes break off, don't worry though if it does break off you can replace it through any parts store,it shouldn't break off though, i own a 77 model and have had to change it a few times over the years, once your done check to see that its working right before you install the door panel back on it again,if its the one on the ignition you have to remove the steering wheel to get to it and its a little more complicated to do,for that you need a good repair manual, tool wise you,ll also need a good steering wheel puller, good luck.

Unfortunatly the steering assembly and lock will have to be changed. You may want to check Ididit.com for a replacement. the good news is you can put in whatever you want.(telescoping, tilt, etc. ) I recommend a removeable steering wheel from Grant, the quick rekase is cool and works well. and it is hard to steal something without a steering wheel.,good luck a wrecking yard may have that if you want to keep it original. try parts finder . com

Column replacement is not necessary. The cylinder comes out without a key similar to a GM of that era. I would get a locksmith to do it and set the new lock to the old key since it also works your doors.
Yeah, is it door lock? Is it ignition lock cyl? Does it have tilt? It all matters.
