How do I change the locks by myself?

I was wondering if it was possible for me to just buy a new door nob and unscrew the old one, without having to hire a locksmith or anything like that. And where would it be the best place to find a good, affordable and durable lock for the front door of my condo?|||Walmart or Home Depot usually carries them, there will be directions on the back on how to insert the lock and install it. I would tell you myself, but really locks installation vary depending on what kind. You can definitely do it yourself.|||changing a door knob is very easy, two very long screws. once you have it out the only thing to look for inside is what the bolt or the part that is inside looks like that is where the knob part goes through. these can vary. if your knob has a name on it buy that kind at home depot. if you can%26#039;t find an exact match then you have to unscrew two more screws that hold the bolt in. most new locks come with that part as well. just be sure to save the old one to put back on if you are renting|||you may want to try surplus for cheaper cost, but works like new|||If you do it yourself, the one crucial thing to measure is the distance from the opening edge of the door to the middle of the hole where the handle goes. That measurement is equal to the size of the backset on the new handle set. The handle designs are all the same size, even if its smaller, there will be a part called a rose, which is a trim piece that goes on to cover the standard size opening. Don%26#039;t overtighten the screws as most locks don%26#039;t like back or side pressure, hand tight then back off a bit.|||You can purchase good, affordable and durable locks at Lowe%26#039;s or Home Depot.
