Is it wrong to change the locks on your boyfriend when financially he has no where to go ?

Is it wrong for me to change the locks on my door while my boyfriend is at work? He is very disrespectful to my feelings and has means based reasons while he won't help me do anything. Basically if I refuse to have sex, he won't help with the kids in the morning saying to the kids %26quot; mommy didn't give me my medicine last night, she's being mean%26quot;. I was going to change the locks but forgot the key. My best frieind said to leave the locks messed up so when he comes home he will ask what is going on .Either he will get the hint to straighten up , or he'll make plans to leave before I throw him out. Basically she feels I should treat him how he treats me .When I confornt him about my feelings he will deny ant wrong doing and say I don't know what you are talking about , and that I should do the same when he asks about the locks. Oh by the way she said I should leave an apartment app on the counter filled out witih his info, calling it the eviction packet. What do tou think?

I think if you truely don't want to be with him than it's time to go your separate ways. I think you should do it in a more mature manner. You mentioned kids, you need to set a good example for them.

sounds like a scumbag
you need viagra
Stop playing games.

Kick his *** out, or move and get a restraining order.
change the locks on him. He that will make think twice about messing with you.
Don't be silly, and don't play his game. Your kids shouldn't be hearing that stuff from their father, it's time to tell him to leave. There is somebody else out there waiting for somebody just like you to come along, life is too short to be miserable over a guy. Tell him to buzz off and leave you and the kids alone.
It is not wrong at all to kick him out of your apartment and your life if he is being that disrespectful to you. You should treat him like he treats you.
Your girlfriend is a terrible source for advice. YOu have kids and a relationship and it is obvious that both of you need to learn how to treat others. Run dont walk to a therapist and try to work out your problems. Give the relationshipo a chance and maybe the two of you can be happy. If that doesn't work then you need a lawyer not a locksmith
the money is on he if he cant help it

but not helping with the kids get reid of him
YOU.. need to talk to him like an adult... Tell him this is NOT...working out.. He needs to help you...and especially...RESPECT YOU.. You are letting him disrespect you in front of your kids?? You need to have respect for yourself.. Why are you worrying about him not having money or a place to live.. HE ..obviously does not care to respect you, your home or your children!! HE is not even having sex with you? What if there is someone else? He is acting like a child... Don't do the same thing.... Don't send him hints and wait till he gets them...he might not want to take hints!.. Don't give him a chance to accept he is being disrespectful to you.. JUST.. tell him how you feel..and that you DON'T need..that..YOU need a real MAN.. that can give you love..support and respect. Is that not..what you want your kids to learn from you? BE STRONG.. you are a mother and you sound smart... It's not worth living with someone like that.... Girl....YOU DESERVE BETTER..and even on your own.. you are better off! GOOD LUCK!!
Ok, here is where I have experience with an ex husband. I not only changed the locks...I MOVED...and he was living out of his car. See, when I would help him, he was disrespectful, OH, and did I mention the fact that he tried to come back to me after his mistress kicked him out...and well hmm...LOVE has to be tough and there must be boundaries or you will be hurt even more. So also I must address your sex issue. NO NO NO NO NO That does not work...and not ever. Using sex as a weapon, bartering system is wrong. Enuf said on that one. Girl this is like a million questions...you sure demand a lot.
If he can't go anywehere financially - the apartment application would be a bit harsh/tacky.

Ok, the guy is a loser - and you're smart enough to recognize that.

Your friend is too - she would like you to have some 'sweet revenge' however, if you start playing games with him it can become more difficult to end it. You don't want to play games with him, you need him out of your life.

Your best option, yes change the locks. However... I don't know the guy's temperment. It might be best that you also plan on being gone that night. Go out with some friends annd have a good time. But ask another friend or two to stay at the place so if he causes any trouble (breaks a window to get in) they can be there to stop him.

Most likely scenario:

he comes home - door won't open, so he knocks.

Friend answers - hands him a suitcase with his personal stuff and tells him he don't live there no more.

He asks to talk to you

Friend says you're gone for the night.

(sorry for the ramblings - hope it helps)

good luck

How much roughly will it be to get my house locks changed?

some guy has a key and creeps into my house every now and then, and i need my locks changed, do you guys roughly know how much it will be?
How much roughly will it be to get my house locks changed?
If you're a little handy you can gt a kit from the hardware store and change them yourself. The kit has to be for the brand of lock that you have (Kwikset, Schlage, etc) and it comes with enough parts to rekey 4 or 5 locks and only costs about $10. Next choice might be to replace the whole assembly since decent locksets run $20 to $50 at Home Depot. Last choice is having a locksmith come rekey for you - locks that you can take in to the locksmith can be rekeyed for less than $10 each, but a locksmith will have to charge $50 to $100 for a home visit, plus the cost of rekeying the locks.
How much roughly will it be to get my house locks changed?
If you do it yourself only about $50. You can get keyed alike lock sets at walmart.
depending on the number of locks, why don%26quot;t you go to home depot and price the locks that you need this way you can get an estimate of price.
The cost of a door know can range between $10.00 and $100.00 and you can pick them up at Lowe's or Home Depot. The only tool required to change the locks is a screwdriver. It is a very easy project to do yourself.
Locksmiths charge about $25 per cylinder to re key locks.

How to change locker Lock Combination?

So, I own a company, and I give people lockers with locks. The locks are not built in. The previous owner left me the turn dial locks that combos are like, (10-32-12). How do I change these lock combos.
How to change locker Lock Combination?
Try googling the name of the company that makes the lockers and write to them or call them for information. It might be that you can't change them, but you could possibly move the locking mechanisms to different lockers.
How to change locker Lock Combination?
no can do. These are unsettable. if they are the simple high school locker type.
If you see a keyhole in the back and the previous owner left you the key you can change the combinations easily. Call or google the lock company to find out how.

More likely the lock combinations are not changeable. You will need to toss them and buy new ones. In bulk they are cheaper than just buying single ones so that is an economical way to deal with it.

In South Carolina, can a landlord charge for changed locks after you have vacated the unit?

Two months after we vacated the house because the landlord told us he was being foreclosed on, we discovered it was all a lie to get us to move. He refused to accept the rent, then proceeded to go into eviction. Rather than go through this, we found a new place and moved. Later we received a letter stating all these repairs he had made to the house. He was trying to charge us for removal of a pool we were given permission to install, installing light bulbs, changing the door locks, painting the walls, installing new linoleum, and the list goes on. Once we found out they had re-rented the property we went over there on our own accord and asked the new tenants if we could enter the dwelling and take pictures. We were allowed in and discovered that there had been no repairs made whatsoever. I took pictures with the date imprinted on them. Now we are being sued for rent three months past our eviction date. Can someone please tell me how this works? Where might I find information concerning this?

He can charge if you did not turn in all the keys.
In South Carolina, can a landlord charge for changed locks after you have vacated the unit?
for this I will recommend you to see this -- %26gt; http://www.myarticlesworld.com

I got this site link some days before on yahoo answer I got lots of information from this web site, This may help you to get answer of your question.

For more keep in touch with answers.yahoo.com
If he has filed papers to sue you then you will get a notice of where and when to appear in small claims court.

When you go, be prepared to fight back with all the evidence you can get your hands on.

Have a calendar showing clearly the dates of your notice to leave the premises, when landlord notified you of the foreclosure, any paperwork concerning the permission you had to install pool, all rent receipts and copy of lease.

Plus all pictures of the interior/exterior before and after, if possible.

As for the locks, he can charge for missing keys and for a new lock if the lease stated that.

Good luck.

  • Changing the locks of a monthly tenant who refuses to leave after being served with an eviction notice?

I know it is deemed %26quot;illegal%26quot; in many municipalities to change the locks to force an evicted tenant out, but how does this apply to a month to month tenant who has been delinquent in paying rent, has had the police called on him for domestic abuse against his partner, and is engaging in the manufacture and distribution of illegal narcotics from his rented unit? I know that if he refuses to leave, I would have to get the marshall involved, which would bring negative attention to my home, but can I lock him out legally if he refuses to leave peacefully? He's already been arrested for insurance fraud by torching his vehicle and a number of other illegal activities. I simply want him out without a confrontation or having to throw him out by force.
Changing the locks of a monthly tenant who refuses to leave after being served with an eviction notice?
File an eviction proceeding, get an order or writ giving you possession, hire some big guys to throw his junk out on the curb and THEN change the locks.

If you change the locks now, he can probably have you arrested.
Changing the locks of a monthly tenant who refuses to leave after being served with an eviction notice?
You should check your state's law. Illegal lockout can go against you in court and you will be fined a hefty sum. You must follow the eviction through to court.
There should be a date on the eviction notice stating a certain date he has to be out by. If he is not, then you call the law. Changing the locks may put you in a legal situation and surely will not stop a confrontation.
You can, but not in a legal sense. You are supposed to get an official notice of eviction served to him.

However...if you know that he is manufacturing drugs on the premises, then call the police, explain the situation, and ask them to escort you on an inspection of the premises. As the landlord, you should be able to legally enter. Have the officer stand outside. If you see drugs, tell them that there is probable cause to believe that the law is being broken, and ask them to enter.
Hard way: File an eviction letter and wait months

Easy way: Itching powder on the bed for a few nights then come in and say the city has detected a bed bug infestation and you need him to take his stuff out because you have to fumigate the place. If he comes back keep putting the itching powder down, when he complains that the bugs are still there say you'll send somebody next week. He'll get sick of it PDQ.
The fact that he's making illegal narcotics and participating in insurance fraud has nothing to do with you changing the locks on th the house.

If he's been served with an eviction notice, you should probably see an attorney before you do anything -- because anything you do, until the judge orders him to vacate the premises, could seriously damage your ability to get him legally evicted.

The law isn't necessarily a do-it-yourself venue, sometimes, professional assistance is needed.

After someone moves out how long do you have to wait to change the locks?

my dad moved out and my mom would like to change the locks. they are currently still married - how long does she legally have to wait to do so.
After someone moves out how long do you have to wait to change the locks?
Depending on states. I have heard in the state of GA you have to wait 30 days. If they have established residency and have bills coming to that house with their names on it they have 30 days to collect all of their stuff when moving out.

It seems though if the house is in her name only then she should be able to change the locks at any time. She will however have to allow him time to pick up his stuff and not deny him of entering to get his stuff.
After someone moves out how long do you have to wait to change the locks?
    30 SECONDS.
she dosnt have to wait... she can change the locks at any time unless the house is your dads
if owns the property - that is her call - especially if concerned about safety
No legality involved here. She can change the locks immediately. If he still has belongings there, she will have to allow him to make arrangements to pick them up, but she doesn't have to leave the doors open to him!
As soon as he's gone. If he moved out, he doesn't need to have a key.
    The day he moves.

    Change the locks immediately...
Till his car gets out of the driveway....GOOD LUCK ....
as soon as there out the door
    immediately
She can change the locks. To be honest it is never illegal to do anything that she feels will insure her safety. **** the law do what you need to do. Take care of your mom and tell her to take care of herself. It's not a nice world we live in. Gotta take responsibility in your own hands and growup. The law is not omnipitant.
As a courtesy she should wait until he gets all of his things. But it is actually her right to change the locks at any time. I would go ahead and change them especially if she is afraid of him taking her things or trying to hurt her. Good Luck!

    Jen
legally--if his name is still on the house, she might have to wait; are they legally 'separated'?

my mom changed the locks about 10 months before her divorce was finalized. i remember that it was july 4th; we celebrated our independence from him ALL NIGHT LONG!

change them; the worst that can happen is he files some legal thing to make you give him a key...i doubt that will happen.
this is not from a legal stand point. Your dad should have returned the keys when he moved out. Your mom should be asking for the keys - giving him a day to return them - if he doesn't, by all means she should change the locks.
If his name is still on the deed of the house I believe it is until it is removed - unless there is a restraining order against him.

however.... if someone moved out on me.. I'd change the locks that day.
No waiting required. Have a locksmith come out and change all the locks whereas one key fits all. That really makes life much easier than having many keys. If you have an automatic garage door opener, change that code as well.
If he has title to the property then that would be up to the courts unless there is a restaining order. Otherwise-only as long as it takes for the locksmith to get there.
Well he was the one who left. I would change them NOW. It's her right to be safe...
if your father moved out but is stil, paying the taxes and has the deed to the home, he can legally throw her out bagagge and all. it dosent materr if there married or shacking up or what. now if dear mother has the home pays the upkeep, taxes deed, and they are going threw judge judys court room(divorce) the minute he has, moved out all of his stuff and hit the ghighways she can legally change the locks anytime she sees fiit providing she owns said home. there is a 30 day, cooling off period but if he even has a pencil of his she can not change the locks etc.
When the door closes behind him.
    1 second
After the divorce is final. The house is considered community property as long as they're married. This means the house at this time belongs to your mam and your dad.
    not even 1 second
    one second
He moved out, i would change them asap
