I am in the process of renting a room in a private home but I'm afraid they will take my first,last and security deposit change the locks and pretend they never saw me before. Usually when renting a room there's no contract so how can i prevent this? or how do i explain to the police if this really happens? what can i do?

Ohh hun! Make sure what ever you all agree on gets put on paper and signed.. You need to have some sort of paper so that you dont get screwed in the end..
usually people may not follow the rules and use a contract when renting a room but that does not mean u are not able to request one. That would be ur most sure way of preventing any such predicament.
