HELP!! I have lost the only key to my sliding patio doors and they are now permenantly locked. Is there a cheap way of sorting this problem out? Can I change the lock when the lock is locked? How do I change the lock? Any suggestions greatly recieved.

A lock smith I believe can unlock the door and %26quot;form%26quot; a new key for the lock. They have a tool that goes into the lock and makes a mold to form a new key from.

You can do it yourself and save yourself some money, it's a LOT easier than it seems and only takes about 5 minutes.. When you buy the doorknob it will come with instructions on how to remove the current one and install the new one, you only need a flathead screwdriver for the whole thing.
The deadbolt is easy, just remove the screws and the replace it with the new one...
Buy the doorknob and deadbolt, give it a go yourself. Do not call the locksmith until you have at least given it a go...

buy them your self eay fix with a screwdriver depending on what they cost would be differ at places but 20 buck maybe take like 20 minutes if you just changing them from ones that are already there id do it my self and save alot of money... unscrew knob remove and look on the door enter side and unscrew the bolt ... look at the door faceing and remove that if it all the same should nt any problems most alln of them are the same size just a few screws no special tools needed

I'm in college and I live with 4 of my friends from highschool, but one of them has been a huge pain to live with and none of us like him, as he's a really messy and just generally shady guy. He knows we don't like him and we get in arguments a lot, and I really don't trust him. Our bedroom doors have locks but they are extremely cheap, I locked myself out by accident once and opened my door with a credit card in literally 2 seconds (I had never picked a lock before and didn't even know how to do it, I just jammed the card in and it popped open). I also tested this a few more times to make sure it actually was the lock at fault and it is.
I'd like to change the lock on my bedroom door to something better or maybe even a keypad or something, but I've heard that you're not allowed to do this at apartments without the landlord's permission, does anyone know if that's true? If it is, what would be the best way to persuade the landlord to let me change the locks? Thanks.

Go to a locksmith store or Home Depot and you can change the combination without replacing the lock. All you have to do is buy a kit for this purpose. The locksmith will take your key and cut a new key to fix the old key pattern, and when you get home all you have to do is put the slog in the lock opening and the new key will work.

you have to pull all the inside door panels off so you can get to the locks and then you have to take the linkage off of them and unbolt them from the door and install the new ones.

If you are talking about the key lock, there is a horse shoe shaped locking clip located at the base of the lock inside the door, that can be popped off with a screw driver and the linkage rod also has a locking clip. The electric lock solenoid is a little harder I would suggest that you get the dealer to copy the info from the shop manual. Most dealers will give you copies for free or a minimal fee 1 or 2 dollars.

some peace! I'm renting from my parents but we don't have a lease. can I just change the locks without getting myself into trouble with the court later on? I'm just having all sorts of problems with him. I have an offer to sell my business (that he runs but he's never paid a dime to my parents for the $ loaned to start it 5 yrs ago) and someone lined up to buy one of my vehicles as well. The temporary injunction says we can't transfer any property without consent of the other party. He sent me a txt msg today that says %26quot;Wht eva sell it. U gna c how many problems thts gna bring u n who eva buys it.%26quot; is this good enough, as in can I count this as him consenting to the sale? I can save this txt and show it to the judge if he complains that he did not consent but he's basically saying I can go ahead and do it. is this good enough for me to not get in trouble? please help - I don't know what to do anymore and he's making my life a living hell!

His txt message really infers that the you can do it but he will sue you if you do so.
