if you are willing to diy it could be cheaper than getting a locksmith. some can be expensive depending upon type of lock and where you want it installed.

Get a new knob at home depot for 12 -50 bucks. You only need a phillips #2 screw driver in most cases. Also, the Backset is adjustable on most models these days to adjust for the two different backsets on a door.
